Language training grants

Invest in your employees

Both the government and industry associations make various grants available each year for teaching or improving (basic) language skills. These subsidies are available to you as an individual or to groups of employees within your organization.

Subsidy scheme supporting employers deployment of status holders

To support employers in the sustainable employment of status holders, the Ministry of Social Affairs & Employment (SZW) offers them the opportunity to apply for a subsidy to do so. This subsidy is intended for extra guidance of status holders in the workplace aimed at reducing language and cultural differences.

Employers can apply for grants from Sept. 2 through Sept. 30, 2024, through the website Implementation of Policy SSW.

The subsidy scheme

The grant consists of an amount of €6,000 per status holder with a maximum of four status holders per organization. Employers can therefore apply for a maximum grant of €24,000 per calendar year. To qualify for the grant, it must be used for on-the-job activities aimed at learning the professional language and teaching the organization's culture.

This subsidy scheme complements the existing (financial) support that employers can receive through the regional Employer Service Points in, among other things, the recruitment and selection, training and guidance of job seekers (including status holders).

Conditions for subsidy

To be eligible, an employer must meet a number of conditions:

  • The employer must indicate how the guidance is organized, how the (company) culture is taught and how the Dutch professional language is learned on the shop floor;
  • The employer must specify for which status holder(s) this subsidy will be used;
  • The employer must certify that after the grant is awarded, the status holder(s) will be offered an (apprenticeship) employment contract for a minimum of 20 hours per week for the duration of at least one year.
